MAKE INTERNATION CONNECTIONS... |
||
#InternationConnections | This Tuesday, S/Sgt Kevin Lee and PCSO Chad Carrington, alongside Rugeley Town Council, had the pleasure of welcoming Mr & Mrs Davies from Western Springs, Illinois, USA, who were visiting Rugeley during their holiday. It was a lovely moment of international friendship and a reminder of the special bond our town shares with theirs.
Rugeley and Western Springs have been officially twinned since 1957, forming a transatlantic connection that’s still celebrated today. In fact, that’s why we have Western Springs Road here in Rugeley — and over in Illinois, they have a Rugeley Road in honour of us!
This twinning was more than symbolic. It was a commitment to cultural exchange and friendship, and it even made history in 1962 when the chairman of Rugeley Urban District Council made the first-ever live telephone call via the Telstar satellite to the mayor of Western Springs — a moment broadcast on national television.
Thank you to Mr & Mrs Davies for stopping by — we hope your visit to Rugeley was as memorable for you as it was for us!
